Ok, so what is this stuff?

 

Asymmetric Lifters are basically, (very basically) electric jet engines.  This it the skeptics view for the most part.  Yes, the test device does produce a slightly detectable amount of atmospheric vortices (wind), however, this side effect is not enough to cause flight. More on this later.  

 

Spoiler Alert - I am not a physicist! So simmer down Mr. Newton and Dr. Einstein, but this isn't a 'thought experiment', it really works.

 

I believe the effect of flight is caused by the test platforms charge itself (what?! this is crazy talk!). The 'corona wire' is charged positive, and the foil 'collector' is charged negative.  Perhaps the flight is caused simply by the device - picking itself up by its own bootstraps so to speak. Amazing.

 

Some of the simplest, and most important technologies humans have developed have started simple.  Perhaps the reason we took so long to develop this is due to an adherent tendency of people to make things as complicated as possible.

 

So, what inspired you to follow this course of research?

 

I like Technology.  Also, I like cutting edge stuff.  I've always been interested in alternate, damned, non-mainstream science (shout out to Charles Buff!).  I stumbled across this article in the August 2003 issue of Wired magazine.
